  1. I have read your article with great interest. I must admit I was never aware of this ‘Run’ on the bank so have learned a lot. However I write concerning the attribution you have given to Admiral George Anson relating to the LIMA mark on your 1745 sixpence.

In an article by Harry Apling in Seaby’s Coin & Medal Bulletin for March 1970, pages 82-87 entitled The “LIMA” Coinage of George II is put forward a far more convincing reason for this LIMA mark.

Mr. Apling’s argument, supported by original documentation, has the treasure coming from two French treasure ships the Marquis d’Antin and the Lewis Erasmus and captured by two British privateers Capt. James Talbot in the Prince Frederick and Capt. John Morecock in the Duke.

I often read about the LIMA mark relating to the exploits of Anson, but am persuasively convinced by Mr. Apling’s alternative explanation. The article is well worth the read.
